Sylvain Armand (born August 1, 1980 in Saint-Étienne ) is a former French football player . The defender was last under contract in Ligue 1 at Stade Rennes .

Career

Armand played for the youth division of AS Saint-Étienne before moving to Clermont Foot in 1999 , where his professional career should begin. But after just one season he joined the first division club FC Nantes . On September 9, 2000, he made his debut in France's top division in a 2-2 draw against AJ Auxerre . In 2001 he became French champion and Supercup winner with the Hafenstadt residents. He stayed with the club for four seasons before moving to Paris SG in the summer of 2004 for five million euros. He had to wait two years before he could win a title there too. In 2006 he won the French Cup with PSG , and the League Cup again two years later. Armand is part of the permanent staff in Paris. Since joining PSG in 2004, he has played at least 35 league games per season. On July 31, 2013, he joined Stade Rennes on a free transfer, whose colors he will still wear in the 2015/16 season . With over 500 point games, he is the most active player in Ligue 1 .

National team

Armand was a national player in France's U-21s, with whom he took part in the 2002 European Junior Championships in Switzerland.
