Andreas Gafner (born March 31, 1971 in Erlenbach im Simmental , BE ), resident in Beatenberg , is a Swiss politician of the Federal Democratic Union (EDU). He has been a member of the National Council since December 2, 2019 , where he joined the parliamentary group of the Swiss People's Party (SVP).

Life

In his main occupation, Gafner is a farmer with a farm in Oberwil in the Simmental . He runs dairy farming and fattening calves. He sees the areas of agriculture, finance and family policy as the main focus of his work as a National Councilor.

In addition to his agricultural activity he was from 2005 to 2016 Mayor of Oberwil. He is married and has three grown daughters.

Criticism of list alliances

The strategy of Gafner and the EDU of gaining the necessary number of votes for a successful election through list connections with small and micro parties met with criticism. Only in the pooling of votes for the parties or candidates of “Die Muskeltiere”, “Landliste”, “Party of Unlimited Possibilities”, “5G goodbye!” and «JutziPhilipp.com» the mandate could be won. The main criticism was that there was hardly any content overlap in political questions with these electoral alliance partners.
