Heinz Siegenthaler (born October 11, 1955 ) is a Swiss politician ( BDP ).

Life

Siegenthaler completed an apprenticeship as a farmer, which he completed with a master's degree. He runs his own arable farm. He received his military training as a tank officer.

He began his political career in 1996 with the election for the Swiss People's Party (SVP) in the municipal council of his place of residence Rüti bei Büren , of which he was a member until 2000. In 1998 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern . He was re-elected in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014. From 2005 to 2008 Siegenthaler chaired the SVP parliamentary group in the Grand Council. Siegenthaler was involved in founding the Civil Democratic Party (BDP) in 2008 and left the SVP. Siegenthaler has chaired the BDP Canton of Bern since February 2012.

In November 2014, Heinz Siegenthaler resigned from the Grand Council and replaced Ursula Haller, who had stepped down from the National Council, as a successor . He was not re-elected in the 2015 general election because the BDP lost seats. In the autumn session of 2017, Siegenthaler was able to move up to the National Council again, after the resignation of Urs Gasche . In the 2019 elections , he slipped in for Beatrice Simon , who waived her seat on the National Council.
