Regula Rytz (born March 2, 1962 in Thun ; resident in Rüti near Büren ) is a Swiss politician ( Green Alliance ). She is a national councilor and was president of the Swiss Green Party until June 2020 .

Life

The daughter of an architect and a musician obtained a teaching license at the Thun seminar in 1983 and taught at elementary schools until 1989. Rytz then studied history , sociology and constitutional law at the University of Bern and graduated in 1997 with a licentiate .

Professional career

From 1993 to 1998 Rytz was Political Secretary of the Green Alliance in Bern. From 1998 to 2000, she conducted research on the subject of “violence in everyday life and organized crime” as part of the National Fund program. From 2001 to 2004 Rytz was the central secretary of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions . From 2005 to 2012 Rytz was a member of the city government of Bern and in this role she was also the chairwoman of the board of directors of the transport company Bernmobil . Rytz has been president of the cantonal commission for gender equality issues since 2012. Rytz is a member of the board of directors of Verkehrsbetriebe Biel .

Rytz was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern from April 1994 to April 2005 . From January 2001 to April 2005 she was President of the Green Alliance of the City of Bern. In October 2004, she was in the council elected the city of Bern and became director of public works, transport and urban green (TVS) with 750 employees. In November 2008 she was confirmed as councilor for another four years with the best result of all elected members. In the national parliamentary elections on October 23, 2011 , she was elected to the National Council and was re-elected in both October 2015 and October 2019 . In the 2019 National Council elections , she won the most panaschier votes in the canton of Bern. From 2013 to 2018 she was a member of the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF) and has been a member of the Commission for Economy and Taxes (WAK) since March 2018, as the spokesperson for economic policy for Green Switzerland.

On April 21, 2012, she and Adèle Thorens Goumaz were elected co-presidents of the Swiss Green Party . The assembly of delegates of Green Switzerland elected Rytz as sole president on April 16, 2016. On June 20, 2020, after a total of eight years - four of them in the co-presidency with Thorens and four as sole president - Rytz resigned the presidency due to the limited term of office at Green Switzerland.

After the historic election victory in the 2019 federal elections , Green Switzerland raised the right to a seat in the FDP in the 2019 Federal Council elections with Rytz as the candidate , because the FDP , as the third strongest force, was overrepresented with two Federal Council seats. Rytz failed, but received 82 votes, making her the Greens' most successful Federal Council candidate to date.

Rytz lives with her partner in Bern's Breitenrain district .
