history

The K 1600 GT was presented as a world first at the Intermot trade fair in October 2010. The market launch was in March 2011 at a base price of 19,900 euros; In 2017 it was 22,050 euros.

technology

engine

The six-cylinder is designed for a small overall width, high torque at low speeds and low weight. Constructive measures such as the hollow cast camshaft with a wall thickness of 3 mm mean that the engine weighs 102 kg. This means that it still weighs 25 kg more than the roughly equivalent engine of the BMW K 1300 GT with four cylinders.

The mixture preparation only has an electrically driven throttle valve with 52 mm, as the otherwise common single throttle valve on motorcycles would have exceeded the overall width of 555 mm specified by the crank drive.

The engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds.

landing gear

The bridge frame is made of aluminum. The rear wheel is guided by a two-joint swing arm, also made of aluminum. The front wheel has a Duolever design with a central strut.

Furnishing

K1600 Cockpit.jpg

The K 1600 GT is the first motorcycle in the world to offer adaptive headlights that illuminate the road better when cornering at night. A swivel mirror in the optics of the xenon dipped beam compensates up to 25 degrees of inclination.

Versions

K 1600 GTL

The K 1600 GTL has been further developed as a long-distance touring bike with additional equipment such as a more comfortable one-piece seat bench, a handlebar that is more cranked towards the driver, rubber footrests and a fuel tank that has been enlarged to 26.5 liters.

The BMW K 1600 GTL comes as standard with a top case that can optionally be equipped with a second, raised brake light. More chrome parts on the side panels, wind flaps and the chrome-plated rear silencers also distinguish them from the K 1600 GT. The list price in Germany was 21,850 euros when it was launched.

K 1600 B

In March 2017, BMW presented the K 1600 B. This version has teardrop-shaped cases with curved taillights and 17-inch forged wheels. When it was launched, it cost 21,900 euros.
