BMW G 650 Xchallenge

The BMW G 650 GS is an all-terrain motorcycle from the German vehicle manufacturer BMW . The Enduro as all models of the G-series of a single-cylinder engine driven. The model designation GS means terrain / road . The internal model code is R13.

history

The single-cylinder engine was originally developed by BMW together with Rotax and initially also manufactured in Austria. The engines of the BMW G 650 X series were manufactured by Loncin Industries in Chongqing , China , from 2008 . As a successor with a single-cylinder engine, the BMW G 650 GS motorcycle model based on the BMW F 650 GS was initially manufactured in Manaus, Brazil, initially exclusively for the local market. From 2011 this model was also available in Germany.

Compared to the previous model, the F 650 GS, the fairing is slimmer, and the steering front fender has been redesigned. The headlights are designed asymmetrically. The fuel tank has been reduced from 17.3 to 14 liters (this could be replaced by the tank of the predecessor in terms of space). Together with the newly designed, lighter cast wheels, the weight is reduced by 4 kg.

Sertão

BMW also offered a higher-level special model under the designation G 650 GS Sertão with longer suspension travel, enduro tires, 21-inch front wheel with wire-spoke wheels and engine protection. The seat height is 86 cm. Sertão describes a savannah landscape in Brazil.

Liquid-cooled four-stroke engine produced from 652 cc a nominal power of 35 kW (48 hp) and a maximum torque of 60 Nm at a speed of 5000 min -1 . The cylinder has a 100 mm diameter bore , the piston has a stroke of 83 mm with a compression ratio of 11.5: 1. The motor accelerates the two-wheeler from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds and enables a top speed of 170 km / h.

The chassis is built on a steel bridge frame with side parts and a screwed aluminum rear frame. The rear wheel is guided by a heat-treated two-arm box swing arm made of steel profiles, the front wheel by a telescopic fork with a Ø 41 mm standpipe diameter. A disc brake with a two-piston brake caliper decelerates on the front tire and a disc brake with a single-piston brake caliper at the rear. A standard anti-lock braking system supports the deceleration on both brakes. The maximum payload is 182 kg.

Electrics

The starter battery has a capacity of 12 Ah and supplies the electric starter . A three-phase generator serves as a generator and generates an electrical output of 400 watts to supply the ignition and lighting system as well as the on-board electrical system. An on-board computer next to the analog speedometer provides information on speed, mileage and time.

Fuel supply

The fuel tank has a volume of 14 liters, of which 4 liters are in reserve. The manufacturer recommends the use of unleaded motor gasoline with a knock resistance of at least 91 octane . The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated three-way catalytic converter and is below the emission limit values ​​of the Euro-3 emissions standard .
