The BMW R 80 ST is a motorcycle model from the manufacturer BMW . It is the street-oriented sister model of the BMW R 80 G / S travel enduro .
The most important technical adjustments to road use were a 19 "front wheel, road tires and shorter suspension travel, which, however, created a significantly higher ground clearance than the classic touring motorcycles of this brand. This and the low weight of only 180 kg then also led to dynamic handling. Otherwise, the main difference between the ST and the off-road model was that it had a mudguard directly above the front wheel and the headlight and instrument panel, which was identical to that of the R45 / R65.
Their boxer engine with 797 cc displacement and 37 kW (50 hp) came from the BMW R 80/7 .
The model was built from 1982 to 1984 in 5953 copies. There was no direct successor, but the classic street models BMW R 80 (from 1985 with Monolever) and BMW R 100 R with (from 1992 with Paralever ) followed.

criticism
“Nevertheless, the ST is indisputably the handiest machine in its class. It can be guided through curves so playfully that you think you're on a much smaller machine. The comparison with the G / S is obvious, even if the ST is not sensitive to steering influences. "
