The BMW R 1200 R is a motorcycle from the vehicle manufacturer BMW . The roadster was presented for the first time as the successor to the BMW R 1150 R on July 7, 2006 at the 6th International BMW Motorrad Biker Meeting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is technically largely identical to the BMW R 1200 ST sports touring bike and the BMW R 1200 RT touring tourer but without cladding.
Since March 2011, the already in the will BMW R 1200 GS (K25) used cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts installed and four radially arranged valves. At the end of 2014, after more than 50,000 units, the R 1200 R (K27) was replaced by the successor model R 1200 R (K53) with a water-cooled boxer engine.
Technical specifications
The air and oil-cooled two - cylinder engine generates a nominal output of 81 kW (110 PS). The rated output of the four-stroke engine is given when using fuel with a knock resistance of 98 octane . The boxer engine has a displacement of 1170 cm³, which it receives from a bore of 101 mm, a stroke of 73 mm and a compression of 12.0: 1. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km / h.
The two- part frame consists of a front and rear frame with a load-bearing motor-gear unit. The suspension setting can be changed electronically in nine stages via the spring preload and damping. The fuel tank holds over 21 liters, of which approx. 3 liters are in reserve and with an average consumption of around 5.5 liters per 100 km, it enables a maximum range of over 350 kilometers. At a constant speed of 90 km / h, the machine consumes 4.1 l / 100 km. If you drive at a constant speed of 120 km / h, consumption increases to 5.5 l / 100 km. The manufacturer recommends using Superplus / Super with 95–98 octane.
The wheel suspension was implemented by a Telelever at the front and a Paralever at the rear . The motorcycle has cast aluminum wheels at the front and rear, each 17 inches . The tires are 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 180/55 ZR 17 at the rear. Ready to drive and with a full tank, the R 1200 R weighs 223 kg. The maximum payload is 227 kg. A partially integral anti-lock braking system (ABS) and an optional traction control system called Automatic Stability Control (ASC) are offered as standard equipment (on every BMW motorcycle since 2013 ) .
criticism
“A successful bike that will even irritate GS drivers, because despite the wide 180 mm rear tire, it is a tad easier to circle the curve. The 'R' is not a heater, but an inspiring vehicle for pleasure tours on country and mountain roads. "
