The BMW HP4 is a motorcycle model of the Superbike / Supersportler class from the German motorcycle manufacturer BMW .

2013 model year

The HP4 was developed on the basis of the S 1000 RR and presented in July 2012. It was officially launched on December 1, 2012. The motorcycle was produced in the BMW plant in Berlin in Spandau until 2014 .

The water / oil-cooled four-cylinder, four- stroke in-line engine has an output of 142 kW (193 hp) and thus enables a top speed of over 300 km / h. The inline engine has a bore of 80 mm, a stroke of 49.7 mm and a compression of 13.0: 1 and a displacement of 999  cm³ . A titanium exhaust system provides more torque in the medium speed range and a weight saving of 4.5 kg. The frame of the machine is an aluminum composite bridge frame in which the motor is load-bearing. Electronic Dynamic Damping Control ( DDC ) automatically adjusts the rebound and compression damping on the shock absorber and telescopic fork to the respective driving situation via electrically controlled control valves in order to achieve the best possible traction and grip . The HP4 is the first production motorcycle to use DDC .

The standard Race ABS regulates the braking behavior and can be set in one of the four different modes or switched off. Compared to the basic S 1000 RR model, the traction control has also been revised; the control intensity can now be set in multiple stages by the driver.

Ready to drive and 90% full tank, the HP4 weighs 199 kg. The maximum payload is 207 kg. The fuel tank holds 17.5 liters, the manufacturer recommends using Superplus / Super with 95  octane .

Model year 2017

In 2016, BMW presented the HP4 Race with a frame and rims made of carbon as a prototype at EICMA ; the machine, which is not road legal, weighs 171.4 kg with a full tank ("dry" 146 kg). Its engine with a displacement of 999 cc has an output of 158 kW (215 hp) 16 hp more than the road version S 1000 RR; its top speed was increased from 14,200 to 14,500 rpm.

The HP4 Race is handcrafted in Berlin; their number was limited to 750 copies.
