The BMW F 800 GT is a motorcycle from the vehicle manufacturer BMW . The sports tourer was presented on November 13, 2012 at the EICMA two-wheeler fair in Milan and will be assembled at the BMW plant in Berlin in Spandau . Sales began on February 9, 2013. Like all models in the current F series , the motorcycle is powered by a Rotax engine that BMW and Rotax jointly developed. The model designation GT means Gran Turismo , the factory code is K71.

Technical specifications

drive

The water-cooled two - cylinder engine generates a nominal output of 66 kW (90 PS) and a maximum torque of 86 Nm at a speed of 5800 min −1 with a compression ratio of 12: 1 from a displacement of 798 cm³ .

The two cylinders of the in- line engine have a bore of 82 mm, the pistons a stroke of 75.6 mm. The cylinder head of the four-stroke engine has two overhead camshafts (DOHC) which control two intake and two exhaust valves via rocker arms.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 224 km / h.

Power transmission

The BMW F 800 GT has a primary drive with gear wheels, a mechanically operated multi-plate clutch in an oil bath and a claw-shift transmission with six gears. The rear wheel is driven by a toothed belt.

Electrical system

The starter battery has a capacity of 12 Ah and supplies the electric starter . The alternator generates an electrical output of 400 watts.

Fuel supply

An electronic fuel injection with digital engine electronics (BMS-K +) creates the fuel-air mixture .

The average fuel consumption is 4.3 liters per 100 km at a speed of 120 km / h. The fuel tank is located under the seat and has a capacity of 15 liters, of which 3 liters are in reserve. The manufacturer recommends the use of unleaded gasoline with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane . The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated three-way catalytic converter and is below the emission limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard .

Frame and chassis

The motorcycle frame is an aluminum bridge frame and the chassis has a single-sided swing arm made of cast aluminum with a central spring strut. The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork with a 43 mm standpipe diameter and 125 mm travel. A hydraulically operated double disc brake with a four-piston brake caliper decelerates on the front wheel, and a disc brake with a single-piston floating caliper on the rear. A standard anti-lock braking system supports the deceleration on both brakes. BMW offers an electronic suspension adjustment (ESA ) and a traction control system called Automatic Stability Control (ASC) for a surcharge .

Model development

Compared to the previous model, the BMW F 800 ST , the nominal output has been increased by 3.5 kW (5 hp) by changing the engine configuration. A new full cladding offers improved wind and weather protection. The maximum payload has been increased by 11 kg to 207 kg. The rims are 820 grams lighter than those of the BMW F 800 ST. The swing arm was lengthened by 50 mm, the fork was shortened by 15 mm and the seat height was reduced to 800 mm.

Reviews

“Ultimately, the F 800 GT is a really good sports touring bike that has been properly optimized in terms of long-distance comfort and suitability for travel without distorting the basic character of the ST. With a clear conscience, the sporty touring rider can rely on the new BMW, which, with its 15-liter tank and the presumably almost unchanged low fuel consumption, stands in the way of another tour to the south with subsequent cornering as the very last one in the way. "

- Roman Engwer : motorcycle

“Which in turn fits in perfectly with the fact that the GT feels more and more comfortable with increasing speed. It is not a handling miracle, it doesn’t want to and cannot be, but whoever leads it through Winkelwerk with a clear message will be delighted with its neutrality, accuracy and lean angle as well as the Metzeler Z8, which harmonizes perfectly with the GT character.
