The BMW R 1200 R (K53) is an undisguised motorcycle from the vehicle manufacturer BMW .

The roadster was presented at Intermot 2014 and, after the R 1200 GS , R 1200 GS Adventure, R 1200 RT and R 1200 RS - apart from the retro roadster BMW R nineT - was the last model in the boxer series, which first appeared in 2013 at the GS introduced air / water-cooled boxer engine with 1170 cm³ and 125 hp. The hottest, most thermally stressed areas in the cylinder heads are washed with cooling water.

The R 1200 R differs from the GS and RT models in the airbox and rear silencer, which has a beneficial effect on the torque in the lower speed range. From 2,500 to over 8,000 rpm there is over 100 Nm of torque. As with its predecessor, the engine carries with it in the tubular bridge frame .

At the front, an upside-down fork with a 45 mm standpipe diameter, derived from the S 1000 RR , is used. The electronics have two driving modes, "Road" and "Rain"; in rain mode the throttle response is gentler, ABS and the basic traction control ASC (both standard) regulate earlier, more defensively. On request, there are two further driving modes: "Dynamic", more aggressive than the "Road" mode, and a "User" mode, in which the e-gas acceptance and slip control can be programmed individually. In addition, Dynamic- ESA is available on request , with which the rebound and compression damping is also automatically regulated in the two modes "Road" and "Dynamic" while driving. The suspension base of the upside-down fork is not adjustable, that of the suspension strut can be adjusted in the following three stages at the push of a button: solo, solo with luggage and pillion ride.

The basic price of the machine was 12,950 euros in October 2015. Fully equipped, the BMW came to 16,795 euros including an anti-theft alarm system.

In November 2018, the successor model BMW R 1250 R was presented at the EICMA for the 2019 model year, with an engine that was essentially revised by the VANOS valve control .
