The BMW R 100 R is a motorcycle made by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, BMW Motorrad Germany.

The naked bike was primarily designed for the North American market. In the early 1990s, air-cooled two-valve boxer engines were used for the last time in the special edition of the “Classic” series from BMW . A smaller sister model, the R 80 R, was also offered.

After 20,589 R 100 Rs manufactured at the BMW plant in Berlin , production of the model ended at the end of 1996.

technology

Engine of the R 100 R "Roadster"

The air-cooled two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine of the model with a chain-driven camshaft underneath and two rocker arms for valve control moved via bumpers achieves a nominal output of 44 kW (60 hp) at 6500 rpm with a displacement of around 980 cm³ . The gasoline-air mixture (regular gasoline) is generated by two constant pressure carburettors ; the ignition is transistor-controlled . The rear wheel is driven by a single-disc dry clutch, a five-speed gearbox, cardan shaft and a deflection gear. The fuel tank has a capacity of 24 liters. With a full tank, the motorcycle weighs 218 kg, the gross vehicle weight is stated as 465 kg.

The chassis is based on a double-loop tubular steel frame with a telescopic fork and a rear single-sided swing arm with a multi-adjustable mono spring strut on the right. The swing arm has the BMW Paralever load support to reduce the drive - related erecting forces. At the front the R 100 R has two Brembo disc brakes (ex works on request, otherwise with mono disc brakes) with four-piston fixed calipers and a drum brake at the rear. The chassis is completed by aluminum spoked wheels with crossed stainless steel spokes (spoked on the outside, for use of tubeless tires). The exhaust system is designed according to the newer BMW models with a single swing arm as a 2-in-1 system, whereby the manifolds are traditionally single-walled (which can be recognized by colored run-up marks) and are connected by a resonance pipe. The jacketed silencer is made of stainless steel, the large collector and the manifolds are made of normal steel.
