The BMW G 310 R is a motorcycle from the vehicle manufacturer BMW .

The G 310 R is the smallest-displacement motorcycle manufacturer in the recent past and has been from the optics to the 1000 R BMW S ajar. The naked bike is marketed by BMW as a “roadster”. The unthrottled entry-level motorcycle falls into driving license class A2 and is intended to appeal to young buyers and those returning to the sport. In October 2017, the travel enduro sister model G 310 GS followed , which is based on the same platform.

The G 310 series are manufactured under a cooperation agreement with the Indian company TVS Motor Company in Hosur (state of Tamil Nadu ). Other derivatives such as a super sports car are presented by BMW at trade fairs and partially introduced by TVS in local markets.

Development and technology

The G 310 R emerged from the concept study Stunt G 310 , the vertical cylinder head of which was installed in the motorcycle frame tilted backwards in order to achieve an optimal center of gravity for stunts . The stunt driver Christian Pfeiffer was also involved in the development .

The cylinder head of the engine is, contrary to the usual arrangement, rotated: the exhaust duct is in the direction of travel to the rear and moved to the intake duct in the direction of travel forward. Like the study, the engine with a bore / stroke of 80 × 62.1 mm is built into a tubular space frame ; the caster is 102.3 mm and the steering head angle is specified as 64.9 degrees.

The front wheel (110/70 R 17) is cushioned by an upside-down fork with 140 mm of travel, the relatively wide rear wheel (150/60 R 17) is dampened by a die-cast aluminum swing arm with a directly hinged central spring strut with a travel of 131 mm. The motorcycle is decelerated by individual brake discs with a diameter of 300 mm (front) and 240 mm (rear) and an anti-lock braking system .

Existence in Germany

The Federal Motor Vehicle Office shows a stock of 1240 G310Rs in Germany for 2019 and a further 523 copies of the G310GS.

Quality problems

The motorcycle was presented in November 2015. The market launch for the European market was planned for 2016. Due to technical problems, delivery to customers was delayed. There have been reports of engine damage due to poor quality parts supplied by the Indian plant. Deliveries to the first customers began in mid-March 2017. In April 2017, there was a recall due to defects in the steering and the front brake.
