Model year 2000-2007 (single cylinder)

BMW F 650 GS Dakar

The BMW F 650 GS was first presented in 2000. It replaced the BMW F 650 , which had been produced together with the Italian company Aprilia . The machine was manufactured in the BMW plant in Berlin .

As in the previous model, the single-cylinder engine from the Austrian manufacturer BRP-Rotax was used, but now with injection . It has a relatively large flywheel , which enables low-speed driving for single-cylinder engines without great mechanical loads occurring. With the double ignition of the engine built from 2004 onwards, a typical consumption of 3.5 to 4.5 liters of normal gasoline is possible per 100 km. The GS is equipped with spoked wheels , 19 inch at the front and 17 inch at the rear .

Although the machine is typically equipped with high-mounted mudguards and an engine guard, as is typical of Enduro , there are no standard hand protectors. The seat height is also relatively low for an enduro. The machine is therefore designed for mixed operation on the road and in easy terrain (e.g. on gravel roads ), less for long-term, hard off-road use.

The F 650 GS Dakar model is more like a classic enduro, with a 21-inch front wheel, longer suspension travel , coarse tires, chain guides in the swing arm area, hand protectors and a higher seat height.

In 2000, the magazine covered motorcycle on that the manufacturer BMW 650 GS one in the F shutdown device used to the emission standard to get around.

The era of the 650 cc Rotax single-cylinder engines came to an end in 2008 at BMW. The 2007 G series models are the last BMW models with Rotax single-cylinder. The single-cylinder engines of the models in the BMW G 650 series were manufactured by Loncin Industries in Chongqing , People's Republic of China , from 2008 . As the successor with a single-cylinder engine, the BMW G 650 GS motorcycle model based on the BMW F 650 GS has been manufactured in Manaus, Brazil, exclusively for the local market since 2009 . This model has also been available in Germany since 2011.

successor BMW F 700 GS

From 2008 the BMW F 650 GS was equipped with the Rotax - parallel twin twin cylinder, which has been used in a similar form in the BMW F 800 S and ST since 2006 , and from 2008 also in the new enduro BMW F 800 GS . There are many similarities with the latter model, but the performance has been throttled.
