The BMW F 800 GS Adventure [ ədˈvɛntʃə ] is an all-terrain motorcycle from the German vehicle manufacturer BMW . The travel enduro was presented on June 14, 2013 at Touratech's premises in Niedereschach , and sales began the following day. The motorcycle is based on the BMW F 800 GS and is manufactured at the BMW plant in Berlin in Spandau . The model designation GS means off- road / road , with Adventure BMW designates the range-extended models with improved off-road properties. The internal model code is K75.

In 2018 the F 800 GS were replaced by the F 750 GS and F 850 GS after around 165,000 units .

Conception

The Adventure is the sixth model in the F 800 series and, after the BMW R 1150 GS Adventure and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure K255, the third model in the Adventure series, which in turn continues the Paris Dakar special models. The engine, drive train, chassis and fittings are identical to the BMW F 800 GS .

Compared to the basic model, the Adventure has a larger windshield, a new bench seat, hand protectors and an engine protection bar. The flanks of the 8 liter larger fuel tank under the seat are wider than on the standard GS, the seat is 10 mm higher. The standard case holder of the Adventure also function as a tank protection bar. At 229 kg, the Adventure is ready to drive, 15 kg heavier.

The F 800 GS Adventure is positioned below the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure boxer series. The Triumph Tiger 800 XC is a competitor model with comparable chassis geometry and drive power in the mid-range enduro segment .

construction

engine

The liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine from Rotax generates a nominal output of 63 kW (85 hp) and a maximum torque of 83 Nm at a speed of 5750 min −1 from a displacement of 798 cm³ . The two cylinders have a bore of Ø 82 mm. The piston stroke is 75.6 mm with a compression ratio of 12: 1. The forged crankshaft has four bearings and a crank pin offset of 360 °. In the cylinder head rotate two overhead camshafts , which cam follower drive two intake and two exhaust valves. The transversely mounted parallel twin is inclined at 8.3 degrees at the front. The mass balance of forces and torques of the first and second order takes place via a swiveling connecting rod that sits on its own crank pin with a 180 ° stroke offset to the piston and moves in the opposite direction to the engine connecting rods. The engine weight of the Rotax 804 including clutch and gearbox is 63 kg without operating materials.

Powertrain

The primary drive takes place via gears. The power is separated by a mechanically operated multi-disc oil bath clutch, the torque conversion by a claw-shifted six-speed gearbox. A sealing ring chain in the secondary drive transmits the engine torque from the gearbox output to a jolt damping in the rear wheel hub.

landing gear

The tubular steel frame encloses the supporting engine. The screwed-on rear section made of square steel tubing is reinforced compared to the basic model because of the larger fuel tank and the higher payload. The upside-down forks by Marzocchi has an inner tube diameter of 45 mm diameter and a spring excursion mm of 230th The in die casting made swing arm made of light alloy has an adjustable strut of ZF Sachs with 215 mm travel. The rear, directly linked strut has travel-dependent damping. Spring preload and rebound damping are adjustable.

The motorcycle is equipped with double brake discs with a diameter of 300 mm and a two-piston caliper at the front and a single brake disc with a diameter of 265 mm and a single-piston caliper at the rear. The braking systems are from Brembo . The standard anti-lock braking system of the Bosch 9M type can be switched off. The wire-spoke wheels have aluminum rims with a diameter of 21 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. Electronic chassis adjustment and stability control are optionally available.

The gross vehicle weight is 454 kg, 11 kg more than the basic model, and the maximum payload is 225 kg.

Fuel supply

The mixture is formed by an electronically controlled intake manifold injection , which is regulated by an engine control system known as BMS-K +. The average fuel consumption is 5.2 liters per 100 km. As with all models in the F series , the fuel tank is located under the seat bench and has a volume of 24 liters. The tank opening is on the right-hand side, level with the pillion seat. The manufacturer recommends using unleaded petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane . The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a three-way catalytic converter with lambda probe and falls below the emission limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard . The exhaust manifolds of the 2-in-1 exhaust system open into a rear silencer on the left-hand side of the vehicle .

Electrics

The starter battery is mounted above the engine, has a capacity of 14 Ah and supplies the electric starter . A permanently excited generator serves as an alternator and generates an electrical output of 400 watts.

Reviews

“In two-person operation, the front wheel is already damn light, which has a negative effect on driving behavior. In solo mode, the Adventure F scurries lightly over the mountain passes, remains stable even at higher speeds and, thanks to its soft basic set-up, is one of the most comfortable of its kind. "

- Till Kohlmey : motorcyclist

“With a fuel tank volume of 24 liters, the range of the new BMW F 800 GS Adventure is significantly greater than that of the standard version with just 16 liters. The nominal 85 hp in-line two-cylinder engine supplied by Rotax in Austria is considered to be particularly economical, and even when used in sports it rarely injects more than five liters per 100 kilometers. Even in the standard F 800 GS you can usually travel over 300 kilometers, with the Adventure it can be up to 500 kilometers. "

- Maik Schwarz : motorcycle magazine MO

“In my opinion, the 800 GS is a modern take on the Africa Twin , its concept. It is also something of its own, it combines its boring “can-cook well” qualities with approaches to real enduro ergonomics: narrow seat, easy to ride standing up, standard 21 "front wheel."

- Clemens Gleich : MoJomag

“The Baby-GS draws its lines cleanly, ensures comfort with its better seating comfort and the higher, steeply erected disc in the Adventure edition. However: Your parallel twin is currently rough on the motorway. Above all at higher speeds, the synchronous rotor rattles audibly despite its vibration-reducing auxiliary connecting rod, reducing the view in the rearview mirror to a distorted image. "

- Peter Mayer : Motorbike

“If you like to unwind kilometers on the autobahn, you don't have to do anything other than stick to the speed limit. The Adventure begins to commute at 150 km / h because of the large aluminum case. "

- Guido Gluschitsch : The standard

“Even in the standard trim, the F 800 GS Adventure looks very complete. Nevertheless, after the first driving impressions, fields of activity for the accessories industry open up. For example, the front fork looks a bit too soft in some situations, at least for extreme use. Even the somewhat tinny sound of the two-cylinder engine leaves room for improvement. "

- Ralf Schütze : The world

“The large tank at the rear has a capacity of 24 liters and thus allows an operating range of up to 500 kilometers. Together with the bulky and huge aluminum suitcases, which weigh in at 15 kilograms (without payload), the already rear-heavy motorcycle becomes a particularly rear-heavy one. Turned into the first bend, the Adventure jerks frighteningly over the front wheel even with a minimal incline and can only be kicked out of the danger zone again with a hefty kick. "

- Patrick Sauter : Motorcycle magazine MO
