O-ring chain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An O-ring chain is a roller chain for transmitting power in harsh environments. The chain is characterized by the fact that O-rings are inserted between the outer link plates and inner link plates , which greatly reduce the penetration of dirt into the moving parts of the chain and enable them to be permanently lubricated . An O-ring chain is often used on motorcycles to drive the rear wheel. However, it can also be used for machine drives where the use of a closed chain case is unfavorable.

The “O” indicates the cross-sectional shape of the sealing rings that protect the lubrication inside the chain links. X-rings (4 sealing points) or W-rings (5 sealing points) offer even more effective protection than O-rings (2 sealing points).
