Bart Moeyaert
Bart Moeyaert (born June 9, 1964 in Bruges ) is a Belgian children's and youth author of the Dutch language .
Life
Moeyaert grew up as the youngest of seven sons of the chambermaid Henriette Smessaert and the primary school teacher Omer Moeyaert. He published his first book at the age of 19. He completed a teacher training course and studied Dutch, history and German in Brussels , wrote his thesis on his favorite author Aidan Chambers before becoming a writer for good. Since 2006 Moeyaert lives in Antwerp and taught since 2003 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in course in creative writing . He also writes scripts and plays .
Today Moeyaert is one of the great European authors of books for children and young people. In 2012 he was nominated for the fourth time for the Hans Christian Andersen Prize. In 2019 he received the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize . His works have been translated into German by Mirjam Pressler .
In 2016, Moeyaert led the guest country appearance for Flanders and the Netherlands at the Frankfurt Book Fair .
