The Motte Kippekausen is a small motte secured by moats (tower hill castle) and a former district in what is now the Kippekausen district of Bergisch Gladbach .
description
Remains of the foundation walls and the inner moat have been preserved from the former castle complex to this day. The map shows the reconstruction of the floor plan. Since the construction of the road, at the latest, nothing can be seen of the outer moat and the processes, shaded dark in the picture.
The fortified settlement probably emerged at the end of the 9th century. It is mentioned in a document in 1404. One of its owners was Heinrich von Merheim. After its decline in the 16th century, it was used by the nearby Kippekausen estate.
Ground monument
The main castle still preserved consists of an 18 × 25 m large and 2 m high hill, which is surrounded by a rectangular wall. Then there are foundations of a tower with a base area of 7 × 5 m and other buildings. There is a 10-15 m wide trench around the hill.
The entire plant of the moth was entered under No. 1 in the list of ground monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
