description

The Bensberger See is a former lignite mine . The Consolidation Alfred mine was last in operation here.

The former town of Bensberg bought the entire area around the Saaler Mühle in 1966. In the following years, a local recreation area with an indoor swimming pool as well as sports and leisure facilities was created here. Then a dam was built at the outflow of the flowing water and the lake was dammed up as a rainwater retention basin.
