Poo Bear

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd (born September 4, 1978 in Connecticut ) is an American songwriter, singer and record producer. Since the beginning of the 2000s he was involved in numerous hits and from 2013 he became known in particular for his collaboration with Justin Bieber . As a Poo Bear , he also entered the charts twice as a singer.

biography

Jason Boyd grew up in poor conditions in Connecticut . When he was eight years old, his parents divorced. A little later, a tornado destroyed the house in which they lived and with the help of a donation from the parish he found a new home with his single mother in Atlanta . The city was a center of R&B music and important labels and producers had settled there. Boyd developed a talent as a songwriter early on and found access to the music business. At the age of 14, he was already writing a song called Anywhere , which was included in the 1998 album Room 112 by the local R&B quartet 112 . The following year he became the first chart hit with his participation. Two songs from the follow-up album Part III , in which he was involved, also hit the charts: Peaches & Cream reached number 4 and was the band's biggest hit, Dance with Me was an unexpected hit in Belgium, it was a number there. one hit and came in fourth in the annual ranking.

His next major contribution was Boyd in 2004 on the album Confessions by Usher , that the high point in the career of R & B singer with a diamond represented award. He had co-wrote three songs, including Caught Up , which was Boyd's first major international hit. In the following years it brought him a collaboration with the successful producer Scott Storch and access to other well-known artists. Work by Kelly Rowland was another international hit out of time. He had further successes with Danity Kane and Chris Brown .

Until then, Boyd had stayed in the background and was only known in the industry. He only got a lot of attention from 2013 when he worked with Justin Bieber . After the teen pop star attracted attention through some negative headlines, he looked for a reorientation towards R&B music and teamed up with Boyd, among others. Starting October 7, 2013, he released a new song every week for 10 weeks. As a result, the individual songs and the album Journals that was released afterwards were not so commercially successful, but brought a lot of chart positions, especially beyond North America, on which Boyd had contributed to a majority. The musical development continued with the next regular studio album Purpose and after its release in 2015 it became Bieber's most successful album. Boyd wrote the song What Do You Mean? With Bieber and Mason Levy . , which became an international number one hit, and was involved in a total of 9 of the 13 album songs as a writer. For the first time, he also co-produced 3 songs, which earned him an album of the year nomination at the 2017 Grammy Awards .

Another international hit on the album was Where Are Ü Now , which was not attributed to Bieber but to producers Skrillex and Diplo with Bieber as “featuring guest”. Before that, Boyd had already been involved in several recordings as an accompanist and under his pseudonym Poo Bear had also officially appeared on singles by rapper and Lupe Fiasco . In 2017 he recorded his own single with Skrillex for the first time and had a smaller chart hit in Europe with Would You Ever . The following year, Hard 2 Face Reality was followed by a second chart single for Poo Bear with the participation of Bieber and Jay Electronica . His first own album Bearthday Music , however, remained without a chart position.

He received another Grammy nomination in 2018 as co-author of the remix version of the Latin American hit Despacito with the participation of Justin Bieber. During this time, there was also increased collaboration with European musicians, mostly together with Bieber. This resulted in hits like 2U with David Guetta and in 2019 another international number one hit I Don't Care with Ed Sheeran as well as smaller successes with Martin Garrix and Sam Smith . Justin Bieber's fifth studio album Changes was released in 2020 . Boyd not only co-wrote all the songs on this album, he also co-produced them. Even if the album achieved many number one placements, it was commercially far behind its earlier successes and did not contain any major hits.
