Music video
The music video was first released on August 23, 2011 on MTV Jams as "Jam of the Week" and a day later on YouTube. It takes 5 minutes and 22 seconds. In the video you can see Lil Wayne sitting on a wall and singing a story. This is about a woman who runs away at the beginning of the video when she was supposed to be doing an abortion . So she has a daughter while the father is in prison. When she is older, her stepfather harasses the daughter of her. When she comes of age, she becomes a prostitute and sleeps with a man from a nightclub. When she went to the doctor, she was told that she was HIV positive, and she began to cry and run away. Suddenly the time is rewound and she is back in baby age. It shows what life she could have led if her mother had married a better man at the time. The girl is smarter and gets better grades, which makes her mother and grandmother proud. She gets a boyfriend and at the end of the video the doctor tells her that she is pregnant. She is happy about it. She thanks her mother and ends the video with the words “Just thank you for being that for me and teaching me how to love.” (“I thank you for always being there for me and teaching me how you really love. ")
reception
The song received mixed reviews.
"This Tha Carter IV single is a casual ground-breaker - the gentlest, most melodic rap ballad since LL Cool J's" I Need Love. " Wayne sings prettily - though he uses Auto-Tune, he doesn't sound like the cyborg Weezy of "Lollipop." He even channels James Blunt. "You're beautiful / You're beautiful," he coos. "You're far from the usual." "
Others
The rapper Rich Rick filed at a court in Los Angeles a lawsuit because it Drummer Boyz offered the same beat as Lil Wayne. He used this beat on How to Love . Rich Rick also sued Lil Wayne for fraud and breach of contract. Lil Wayne was acquitted.
