Irma (bourgeois Irma Pany , born July 15, 1988 in Douala , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian singer and songwriter living in France .

life and work

Irma comes from a musical family. Her father is a guitarist and her mother sang in the church choir. As a child, Irma also performed at church masses. At 15 she went to a high school in Paris to improve her education. From 2008 to 2013 she completed a master’s degree at the ESCP Europe business school . In 2007 she posted her first videos on YouTube , in which she interpreted songs that she had written herself but also cover versions, including I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 and New Soul by Yael Naim . In 2008 Michael Goldman, son of the French musician Jean-Jacques Goldman and 2007 co-founder of the label My Major Company, became aware of them. Irma received a recording contract with My Major Company and released her debut album Letter to the Lord in France in February 2011 , where it reached number 6 on the album charts. In Switzerland, she debuted at number 46 and in Wallonia at number 18. The first single I Know reached number 42 in Switzerland, number 2 in France and number 7 in Wallonia. In summer 2011, she took the song I Want You Back in a common version with the Black-Eyed Peas singer will.i.am on. In 2012 the album Letter to the Lord went platinum in France. At the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 she received a nomination for best French act. In early 2013 she released her title I Know in a duet version with Mic Donet , a candidate from the first season of The Voice of Germany . In July 2015 she appeared as a supporting act for Bob Dylan at the Voices Festival in Lörrach .
