Mike Candys
Mike Candys (* 21st August 1971 ; bourgeois Michael David Kull ) is a Swiss House - DJ and producer , who in 2011 with the song One Night in Ibiza celebrated its breakthrough.
life and career
Musical beginnings
Michael Kull took piano lessons at the age of eight. At the age of 15 he set up his own studio and in 1988 founded the rock band One Note Jam with a few friends . At the end of the eighties he then dealt with the techno house acid wave, which has left its mark on him to this day.
In 1992 he founded the pop duo 2 SHY with producer Roy Lembo . They recorded their first CD together in Candys' studio. Shortly after their release, they were signed by the record label EMI Elektrola Germany , whereupon the German DJ Axel Behre took part in the duo's productions. Together they toured various radio and television studios. At the beginning of the 2000s the duo split up.
He then wrote, composed and produced songs for various bands and musicians. In addition, he played repeatedly as a DJ in various clubs in Switzerland and got to know Jack Holiday . Together they began to produce various remakes of cult hits.
2008: Breakthrough with La Serenissima and Insomnia
In 2008 he made a name for himself in the Swiss club scene with the song La Serenissima , which he produced together with Jack Holiday . This resulted in collaboration projects, remixes and productions by and with artists such as Christopher S , Mr.Da-Nos , Mr. P! Nk , DJ Antoine , Remady and others.
A remake of the song Insomnia by Faithless , which he in turn produced together with Jack Holiday and made him known beyond the borders of his home country, helped him achieve his international breakthrough in 2009 . The song made it into the Swiss charts shortly after its release and in 2012 (through a re-release) also into the German and Austrian charts. In addition, the song was awarded a platinum record in Switzerland .
2010: Evelyn's commitment
In 2010 he engaged the Swiss singer Evelyn . Together they worked on their own songs. In summer 2010 they released their first single Together Again . It made it into the Swiss Top 15 and the French charts. It was also the beginning of his new style of music, which differs significantly from the previous topics.
A year later, the second single, One Night in Ibiza , followed, which hit the charts not only in Switzerland, but also in Germany and Austria. In addition to Evelyn, the Swiss rapper Patrick Miller also participated . The song is an answer to the song Welcome to St. Tropez by DJ Antoine . The single was able to achieve gold status in all German-speaking countries.
In September 2011, the DJ's debut album Smile was released. This was also able to achieve chart placements. In 2012 a deluxe edition with the two other songs was released. This also hit the charts again. In January 2012 he released a new remake with Jack Holiday : they covered the song Children by Robert Miles .
2012: Top 10 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
He worked with Patrick Miller and Evelyn on the following single in 2012 (If the World Would End) . It was released as a single on March 16, 2012 and soon became a top 10 hit. In the German and Swiss charts, the single made it to number 3 and achieved gold status. In Austria the song was able to work its way up to number 2 in the charts and was also awarded a gold record here. In Switzerland he achieved platinum status . Miller got a contract with Kontor Records .
In June 2012 the single Sunshine (Fly So High) was released. The song was recorded with the Swiss singer Sandra Wild .
In October 2012 Mike was also voted 86th on the list of the top 100 DJs in the world, which is published annually by the renowned DJ Mag .
In November 2012, the record label Kontor Records released the music video for the song The Riddle Anthem . Here, too, Jack Holiday was co-producer. The original melody comes from the song The Riddle of Nik Kershaw . The song even surpassed the success of the first cover Insomnia .
2013: Smile Together… In the Mix and Everybody summer tour
On February 1, 2013 the single Bring Back the Love and was recorded with Jenson Vaughan . The success was limited in Germany and Austria with one week each in the charts, but in Switzerland she was one of his most successful singles.
On February 3, 2013, Candy's second album Smile Together… in the Mix was released . In addition to his own songs, the record contains numerous other songs, most of which were released via Kontor Records. After a week, the album entered the album charts in Germany and Austria, as well as the top 10 of the Swiss compilation charts. Shortly thereafter, another compilation album was released entitled Candy's Shop . This is a collection of old classics , including releases and remixes by Jack Holiday and Candys from 2000-2004.
The next single was Brand New Day and was recorded with singer Evelyn and rapper Carlprit . It was released on March 15, 2013. However, the single was a very little hit in all countries.
The last release was released on June 1, 2013 exclusively via Wombat Music . The electro song was entitled Oh Oh , but could not achieve any single chart placements.
Mike Candys also started his "Everybody Summer Tour" in June. This consisted of performances in 32 cities in seven countries until August. His Summer Residencies celebrates Mike Candys this year at the Riu Palace on Mallorca and in Colossos in Lloret de Mar . He also plays at numerous renowned festivals such as the Donauinsel Festival in Vienna, the Fun Radio Festival in Madrid, the Motion Festival in Gunzgen, the Beat Island Festival in Wackersdorf and the Midsummer Night's Dream in Munich.
On June 28, 2013 the single Everybody was released. Evelyn and RIO's ex-frontman Tony T. are involved in this song . The song was released in a new style via Kontor Records .
At the end of July 2013 Candys announced on his Facebook page that he would release a remix of the song Take Control by DJ BoBo in a new 2k13 version. The whole thing is based on the remix by Remady and Manu-L for Somebody Dance with Me , also from this year. It was published on September 6, 2013. The original from Take Control did not reach a chart position in the early 1990s; only with this new recording could the song enter the charts of several European countries.
In September 2013, he announced that he was working on a new single to be released on the record label S2 Records. The title name was T-Rex . The track appeared shortly afterwards as a single track on Beatport . Even before the release, T-Rex was compared to the club hits Animals by Martin Garrix and Tsunami by Dvbbs . Mike Candys also announced at the time that he was currently working on a new track with singer Maurizio Pozzi , known for songs like DJ Antoine's Ma Chérie or Manian's Cinderella .
In October 2013 Mike also rose 19 places to # 67 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs voting , making him the highest-placed Swiss DJ among the top 100 in the world.
2014: Genre change / Space Ibiza
Instead of the expected song Miracles with Maury, the song Heaven and Hell was released on December 27, 2013 . The singer Evelyn and the English DJ Shaun Baker are involved. It is based on the well-known Explode theme by Baker. Then on February 14, 2014 the track Miracles with Maury was released. For the first time since Everybody in June 2013 it contains the typical Mike Candys style. At the same time, another S2 Records single was released, which was called Carnaval .
The single Anubis was released on May 6, 2014. Furthermore, on May 30th, he released the collaboration La Vida Loca with the Swiss singer Evelyn. On June 13th, the cover of Hot Butter's 1971 popcorn was released, which he co-produced with Jack Holiday.
Mike Candys also played on the main floor of Space Opening Fiesta / Ultra Ibiza in Space Ibiza on May 25, 2014. In addition, Mike is regularly booked to headline the Ibiza Calling event series at Space Ibiza throughout the summer season . A short time later, in July 2014, Mike Candys published a kind of podcast in which he put together an hour-long remix of all the club hits of the summer on his channel as well as a summer 2014 version of his Smile Together compilation from the previous year. At the same time he published the song Whole Wide World together with the singer Angelika Vee. The track is another classic Mike Candys style.
Mike Candys' production Delta was released on October 6, 2014 by the S2 Records label, with the song following a progressive style. One month later, on November 3, 2014, the title Playades , which Candys produced in collaboration with Alan Ripleys, was released. Playades is designed in a future house style. For January 26, 2015, Candys announced the single Jupiter , which was recorded again after a long time in collaboration with Jack Holiday. After his S2 Records releases each represented him in different genres, Jupiter should follow his original style again. In the same year a number of other electronic singles appeared with, among others, The Drill and Saltwater . He recorded the song Sextape together with the Italians Angemi and Prezioso .
In 2016 he released two more commercial songs with Evelyn, songs like All My Tomorrows and Summer Dream . Still, Candys followed the more aggressive trends. Songs like Crackin or Sirius were used for this . In 2017, another collaboration with Evelyn appeared. This was entitled Never Walk Alone . In 2018, in addition to numerous electronic singles, a collaboration with singer Dante Thomas was released . This was titled Instastory and uses the Tropical House.
In 2019, Candys and Jack Holiday released a remix of their The Riddle interpretation from 2012. With this deep house version they entered the Swiss single charts. In addition, they landed as many Spotify streams as on their 2012 version. They also released a remix of their Saltwater remake in a similar style . In addition, the song Like That became a success in the EDM field. With Pump It Up and Push It , he released two follow-up singles.
