Robert Miles (musician)
Robert Miles [ ɹɒbət maɪlz ], bourgeois Roberto concina , (* 3. November 1969 in Fleurier , Canton of Neuchatel , Switzerland ; † 9. May 2017 in Ibiza , Spain ) was an Italian pop - and Dream House - musicians .
Life
Roberto Concina was born in Switzerland in 1969 to Italian parents (his father was in the military ), who moved back to Italy with him in 1979. In Fagagna he began to gain his first musical experience with the piano and mixer. At the age of 17 he dropped out of school and worked as a DJ . Miles then developed his own music, which he put together on the computer in the recording studio. In the late 1980s he performed in discos in the Venice area in hardcore trance as Robert Milani .
With his debut - Single Children now as Robert Miles, managed the musician in 1996 high in the charts in several countries and has sold five million times. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the instrumental piece made it to number one. As a result, a BMG sub-label signed Miles. The following singles Fable and One and One also sold well, and he released the first album Dreamland . In 1997 he received several awards, not least a Brit Award for best international newcomer and a World Music Award for most successful male newcomer of the year.
After moving to London , he released his second album 23am in 1997 . The single from it was Freedom . Miles could not build on the initial success, also because he hardly made any promo appearances himself, and then broke with his record company. It was quiet around him for a few years, which he used to perform more as a DJ again. In 2001 the next album, Organik , was finally released , which was characterized by a more experimental style. The track Trance Shapes found its way into the soundtrack of the film The Bourne Identity in 2002 , which shouldn't be the musician's only contact with film music. In 2003 Miles founded his own record company S: alt Records in London, with recording studios in London and Ibiza. Studio! K7 in Berlin distributes the label.
With Organik Remixes Miles also added a remix album in 2002, on which he a. a. worked with The Future Sound of London . He continued the collaboration with Trilok Gurtu in 2004 in the collaboration album Miles-Gurtu . 2008, his single was Children resumed with Children 2008 brought Dave Darell an electro-house version of the title in the European clubs. After a long break, Miles only reported back in 2011 with the album TH1RtT3EN . In 2012 another remix of the track Children was released . This comes from the Swiss DJs and producers Mike Candys and Jack Holiday . The style can be classified in the genre of Electro House. In 2013 he founded his radio station OpenLab in Ibiza, where he also worked as a radio maker until his death.
Miles died on May 9, 2017, at the age of 47 in Ibiza from cancer diagnosed nine months earlier. He left a daughter. Before that he also lived in New York and Berlin.
