content
In the song the singer (Maxi Jazz) tells of his suffering from insomnia and the desperate struggle for sleep. ( I toss and I turn without cease, like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast / At least a couple of weeks since I last slept, kept takin 'sleepers, but now I keep myself pepped ) The subject can be used as a fan can be identified by electronic club music, because with the regular use of chemical stimulants, as is common in club and rave culture, suffering from insomnia is often a side effect.
The song also describes a possible precarious situation, or at least the inability to organize the daily routine. ( Make my way to the refrigerator / One dry potato inside, no lie, not even bread, jam, when the light above my head go bam ... )
Release history
Insomnia was first released in 1996 on the British label Cheeky Music, which was operated by producer Rollo. The song quickly became a club hit and was licensed and released by other labels, including large major companies. The track first appeared in the US in 1997.
In addition to the regular version of 3:36 minutes, the original single also contains two versions that are almost 9 minutes and 11 minutes long. The album version contains additional texts that were not played on the radio because of their explicit content. The Moody Mix became popular in the clubs thanks to the ringing of bells before the song.
Norwegian electronics artist Biosphere claimed Faithless sampled the bassline from his single Novelty Waves . Following the release of Sash! S hit Encore une fois in 1997, Faithless expressed disapproval because they believed elements of Insomnia were used in the production.
Insomnia has been covered several times by other dance projects, such as in 2002 by the Nightwatchers and in 2009 and 2012 by Mike Candys & Jack Holiday.
