Maxwell Alexander Fraser (born June 14, 1957 in Brixton , London ), better known as Maxi Jazz , is an English rapper , singer and songwriter . He is best known as the singer in the British band Faithless .

biography

Maxi Jazz founded "The Soul Food Cafe System" as a DJ in 1984 after discovering hip-hop a year earlier . In 1987 he brought this sound to the pirate channel LWR.

Maxi founded Namu Records in 1992 to release the band's material in the form of three EPs . The band toured as opening act for various artists, e. B. Jamiroquai in Amsterdam , Soul II Soul in Barcelona , Galliano in Switzerland and Jason Rebello in Brazil . After the band split up, Maxi worked across Europe, collaborating with Jah Wobble on the album Invaders of the Heart , followed by live concerts with Wobble Collective.

Maxi Jazz met Rollo Armstrong in a studio and formed Faithless with him , along with Jamie Catto and Sister Bliss. As a supporter of the new religious movement Sōka Gakkai , Maxi's belief stands in contrast to the name "Faithless" chosen while writing the song "Salva Mea". Rollo asked Maxi to write a song about frustration because it was something Maxi could refer to based on his own experience. His work spans a range of personal and social topics, including current affairs.

In 2006 Maxi contributed the vocals for Tiësto's song "Dance4life". He also sang the single "My Culture" from the collaboration album 1 Giant Leap with Robbie Williams .

Maxi Jazz celebrated his 50th birthday on June 15, 2007 in London's Hyde Park as the headliner of the O2 Wireless Festival 2007. In the encore, thousands of fans congratulated him by singing Happy Birthday to You .

Private life

He lives in West Norwood , Lambeth and is a Buddhist . He is also a fan of the Crystal Palace football club in London .

Maxi is very interested in cars. He owns a Subaru Impreza P1 , a Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 , a Ford Sierra Cosworth and a Marcos LM500 R. In 2005 he drove a Ginetta and in 2006 and 2007 Fraser drove in the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup in several races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain as a guest driver.

On December 9, 2001, Maxi was involved in a serious car accident, which resulted in some of Faithless' UK concerts being canceled.
