Shaka Ponk (sometimes abbreviated as SHKPNK ) is a crossover - band from France , which has been based in Berlin since of 2004. In their music, the band makes use of elements from a wide variety of styles such as rock , punk , electronic music and hip-hop , with the lyrics mostly being a mixture of English, French and Spanish.

Band history

The band members Frah, Thias, CC, Bobee-OD and Goz left their home country France for Berlin in September 2004, because the strict French radio quota meant that their chances of success and their creativity were too limited, because many parts of their lyrics make use of themselves English language , which negatively affects their media presence in France. The band was subsequently able to draw attention to itself in Germany, especially through numerous live performances. Shaka Ponk made a number of appearances, including as the opening act for Mudvayne , Exilia and The Boss Hoss . Most recently, they supported Such a Surge on their farewell tour and were booked by a well-known Austrian soft drink manufacturer for various advertising and extreme sports events.

In July 2005 the band managed to get a record deal with Edel Records . The EP Hyppie Monkey from December 2005 followed in March 2006 the release of the first single and the first album called Loco con da Frenchy Talkin ' . In May 2009, Bad Porn Movie Trax , the band's second studio album, was released after the single How We Kill Stars had been released two months earlier . The third album, The Geeks & The Jerkin 'Socks , was released in June 2011. At number 14, it reached the highest position of the band's albums in the French charts. The uncoupled My Name Is Stain became the band's biggest hit and rose to the top 7th place in the singles charts.

In 2011 the album Sex, Plugs and Vidiot'Ape rose to number 23 in France. The following long players Loco con da Frenchy Talkin ' (166th place) and NRJ Sessions Shaka Ponk (144th place) received significantly less attention. It was only with Geeks on Stage that they returned to the top 20 at home (12th place). The biggest sales success of an album to date was achieved by Shaka Ponk in 2014 with The White Pixel Ape , which climbed to number 2 on the French charts and number 16 on the Swiss charts.
