Francesco Nullo

Francesco Nullo (born March 1, 1820 in Bergamo , † May 5, 1863 in Krzykawka , Poland ) was an Italian colonel and freedom fighter.

In 1848, during the popular uprising in Milan , he and two of his brothers fought against the Austrian occupation forces, a year later with Garibaldi's red shirts for the Roman Republic against the French. In 1859 he took part as a first lieutenant in the Second Italian War of Independence , in 1860 in the procession of a thousand , in which he was wounded in the battle of Calatafimi . In 1862 he was arrested by the Rattazzi government for participating in Garibaldi's campaign in Aspromonte. As a political prisoner, however, he only had to serve a few months in the fortress of Bard . In 1863 he went to Poland and took part in the January uprising against tsarist rule . As a general he was killed in action against the Russians near Krzykawka, part of the Gmina Bolesław community .
