Arwed Wilhelm von Oertzen (born August 2, 1843 or 1844 in Kahren , † February 3, 1917 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Von Oertzen was a son of the landlord Arthur von Oertzen (1803-1851) and his wife Karoline Annunciata (nee Countess von and zu Westerhold and Gysenberg , 1810-1865). His father was the master of Kahren and Koppatz. He had seven siblings, three brothers and four sisters.

Oertzen joined the 3rd Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 20 of the Prussian Army on April 25, 1861 , coming from the cadet corps as a portepeefähnrich , where he was promoted to second lieutenant on November 11, 1862 . From January 1, 1865 to December 31, 1866 he was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion. On January 1, 1870, he became an adjutant of the Jüterbog district command . From April 23, 1870, Oertzen served as adjutant of the 8th Infantry Brigade and in early May 1870 was promoted to Premier Lieutenant . In this position he took part in the war against France , was wounded on January 23, 1871 near Dijon and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his achievements .

On May 10, 1872, he was transferred to the 7th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 54 and was assigned to the General Staff in Berlin from May 14 to April 21, 1873 (promotion to captain ) . On February 14, 1874 Oertzen became chief of the 10th Company and on May 4, 1878 adjutant of the General Command of the II Army Corps . From May 7, 1881 he was the personal adjutant of Duke Ernst von Sachsen-Altenburg . On September 30, 1882 he was promoted to major and from April 14, 1884 he was commander of the 2nd battalion of the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 in Minden . On February 3, 1887, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the 4th Guards Regiment on foot . Since May 6, he was employed as a regular staff officer and on May 22, 1889 promoted to lieutenant colonel.
