Gustav von Kortzfleisch

Gustav Franz Achatius von Kortzfleisch (born November 3, 1854 in Graudenz , † March 16, 1910 in Posen ) was a Prussian major general and military writer .

Life

family

He came from the Prussian branch of the noble family of Kortzfleisch . His parents were the Prussian colonel and district commander in Anklam , Otto von Kortzfleisch (1814–1895) and his wife Pauline, née von Talatzko. Ida von Kortzfleisch (1850–1915), the founder of the Reifensteiner Schools , was his older sister.

Kortzfleisch married Elsbeth Oppermann (1862–1937) in Hanover in 1889 . The marriage resulted in three children, including Joachim von Kortzfleisch (1890–1945), who later became General of the Infantry of the German Wehrmacht .

Military career

Kortzfleisch visited the cadet corps and on October 18, 1871 was transferred to the Hanoverian Fusilier Regiment No. 73 of the Prussian Army as portepeefähnrich . Promoted to secondary lieutenant in May 1872 , he was active from February 15, 1876 as adjutant and investigative officer of the 2nd Battalion. Kortzfleisch graduated from the War Academy from October 1, 1879 to July 17, 1882 and has since been promoted to Prime Lieutenant. After his return to his association , he acted as a regimental adjutant from August 8, 1882. In position à la suite of his regiment, he was commanded as adjutant to the 60th Infantry Brigade in Metz on March 14, 1885 , and then on April 17, 1886 to the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 to be moved. Shortly afterwards, from May 1, 1886 to March 31, 1888, Kortzfleisch was commanded to serve with the Great General Staff and was employed here in the railway department. Relieved of his command in the General Staff and at the same time promoted to captain , he was transferred to the Braunschweig Infantry Regiment No. 92 on March 22, 1888 and appointed chief of the 5th Company on July 22, 1888 . In position à la suite of the regiment, Kortzfleisch was appointed railway commissioner on February 17, 1894 and assigned to the railway department of the Great General Staff. From July 15, 1894, he worked for three months at the Gdansk Railway Operations Office and at the Bydgoszcz Railway Directorate to deepen his knowledge of rail transport. With his promotion to major on March 19, 1896, Kortzfleisch was presented à la suite of the infantry regiment "Graf Barfuß" (4th Westphalian) No. 17 . With the uniform of this regiment, he was appointed railway commissioner in Berlin on June 16, 1896 . On September 10, 1898, Kortzfleisch was entrusted with the management of the railway commissioner's business in Saarbrücken . He received confirmation of this position on March 25, 1899.

On April 1, 1901, Kortzfleisch returned to service with the army after being transferred to Colmar . He was used there as commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Upper Alsatian Infantry Regiment No. 171 , in this position promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on May 17, 1902 , and on June 19, 1902 to the staff of the 2nd Kurhessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 moved to Göttingen . On April 22, 1905, Kortzfleisch became a colonel , at the same time transferred to Metz in the 1st Lorraine Infantry Regiment No. 130 and acted as regimental commander from May 18, 1905 to April 20, 1908. Then with the statutory board and the permission to wear the regimental uniform for disposition found Kortzfleisch was further used as z D officer and the commander of the military training area poses appointed. In this position, Kortzfleisch received the character of major general on August 19, 1909 . Kortzfleisch was also honored with the service award cross and the Zentenar medal. He died of cardiac paralysis on March 16, 1910 in the Poznan garrison hospital .
