Blue Hill is a town in Hancock County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 2686 inhabitants in 1279 households on an area of 224.5 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Blue Hill has a total area of 224.5 km², of which 162.0 km² are land and 62.5 km² are water .
Geographical location
Blue Hill is located on Blue Hill Bay of the Atlantic Ocean , centrally in southern Hancock County. In the north, the Toddy Pond protrudes over the area of the Town and in the south the Salt Pond . Other smaller lakes are spread over the area of the town. The surface is hilly and the highest point is the centrally located 281 m high Blue Hill .

history
Blue Hill was settled from 1762. The first settlers included Captain Joseph Wood and John Roundy. The original name for the area was Township Number 5 . Then the area was organized as a plantation named Newport . As a town, it was organized in 1789 under the name Blue Hill .
The town was best known for Mary Ellen Chase , a writer and teacher who was born here. The writer Janwillem van de Wetering died in the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital in July 2008 .
