Gouldsboro is a town in Hancock County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 1737 inhabitants in 773 households on an area of 256.38 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Gouldsboro has a total area of 256.38 km², of which 119.58 km² are land and 136.80 km² consist of water .
Geographical location
Gouldsboro is located in the southeast of Hancock County on a headland on the Atlantic Ocean . To the west at Flanders Bay and to the east at Gouldsboro Bay . Washington County borders to the east . In the area of the town there are several lakes, the largest is Jones Pond , north of this the West Bay Pond and south of Jones Pond the Forbes Pond . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations. Several islands also belong to the area of the town. The best known are: Bar Island , Burnt Porcupine Island , Hog Island , Long Porcupine Island and Stave Island .

history
Settlement in the Gouldsboro area started in what was later to be called West Gouldsboro. Massachusetts granted the grant to Nathan Jones, Francis Shaw, and Robert Gould in 1764. It was later named after Robert Gould Gouldsboro Plantation.
The original name of the area was Township No. 3, East of the Union River, Livermore Survey (T3 EUR LS) . On February 16, 1789, Gouldsboro was organized as a Town under the name Goldsboro . The name changed to Gouldsboro in 1887.

US Highway 1 runs through the north of Gouldsboro in a west-east direction. Maine State Route 186 and Maine State Route 195 branch off from it.
