Deer Isle is a town in Hancock County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 1975 inhabitants in 929 households on an area of ​​320.30 km².

history

As early as 1605, George Weymouth was the first European to enter the area. Deer Isle was organized as a Town on February 2, 1789, previously known as Deer Island Plantation. It was the fourth organized town in Hancock County. The name was derived from the deer living there in the forests. Settlement started in 1762 and the first settler was William Eaton.

In 1874 land was given to the town of Isle au Haut and in 1897 to the town of Stonington.
