Cranberry Isles is a town in Hancock County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 141 people lived there in 70 households on a land area of 8.2 km². It is located on the Cranberry Islands .

According to the United States Census Bureau , Cranberry Isles has a total area of 118.0 km², of which 8.2 km² are land and 109.8 km² are water .
Geographical location
Cranberry Isles is located south of Hancock County on five islands. These shield the Somes Sound from the Atlantic . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

Only Great Cranberry Island and Little Cranberry Island are permanently settled. There are numerous summer homes on Sutton Island.

history
Cranberry Isles was spun off from Mount Desert Town as an independent town in 1830. In 1849, more areas of Mount Desert were added to the town of Cranberry Isles. The name was derived from a cranberry field, which inspired Governor Francis Bernard to use this name in 1762. Bernard himself had received a grant from the Province of Massachusetts Bay for the Mount Desert area in the same year .

The islands are only accessible by ferry and there are municipal roads on the islands.
Public facilities
There are no medical facilities or hospitals in Cranberry Isles. The closest are in Bar Harbor.
The Great Cranberry Library is located on Great Cranberry, on Cranberry Road.
education
The Cranberry Isles School Department is responsible for school education. Cranberry Isles is part of the Mount Desert Island Regional School System - AOS 91 , along with Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, Deer Isle, Frenchboro, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Swan's Island and Trenton .
There are two schools in Cranberry Isles, Longfellow School on Great Cranberry Island and Ashley Bryan School in Islesford on Little Cranberry Island. The Longfellow School offers school classes from kindergarten through eighth grade. Ashley Bryan School offers classes from Year 9 through Year 11.
