history

Settlement of the area began in 1804 when the first settlers reached the area across the Union River, which flows through Graham Lake.

Waltham was organized as a Town on January 29, 1933. Previously, the area was named 14 MD BPP and Township No. 14 Middle Division, Bingham's Penobscot Purchase (T14 MD BPP) or Mariaville South .

Land was given to Mariaville in 1825 and 1829. In 1872, territories were given to Eastbrook.
