Trenton is a town in Hancock County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1,481 inhabitants in 663 households on an area of 73.53 km².

Geographical location
Trenton is located in the southeast of Hancock County on a headland on the Atlantic Ocean . To the west of the Union River Bay , to the east by Mr. Desert Narrows . There are only smaller lakes in the area of the town. The surface is rather flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Trenton was organized as a Town on February 16, 1789, previously the area was named Plantation No. 1 East of Union River organized. In 1809 Trenton ceded land to Ellsworth, in 1828 to Hancock and in 1870 the Lamooine was formed from the eastern area of Trenton. Areas of Eden, now Bar Harbor, were added in 1849.
A first settlement was created in 1763 by Ebenezer Thorndike. Until the establishment of the plantation, the area was called Thornbury or Thorndike Plantation.
Trenton was named after the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War .
