Claudio Bohórquez

Claudio Bohórquez (* 1976 in Gifhorn ) is a German cellist and music teacher of South American family origin.

life and work

Claudio Bohórquez was born in Gifhorn into a family of musicians and grew up in Karlsruhe . His Peruvian father Oscar Bohórquez (father) worked for many years as principal bassoonist at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and as bassoon teacher at the University of Music in Karlsruhe, his mother, who came from Uruguay, worked as a pianist. At the age of seven he began to learn the cello together with his friend Jesús Castro-Balbi, who is now also a cello professor. Claudio Bohórquez studied cello with Boris Pergamenschikow in Cologne and Berlin. He was successful early on in competitions such as the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition in Moscow or the Rostropovich Competition in Paris . In 1995 he won first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition . This success marked the beginning of his career as a soloist. In 2000, he won the Kronberg Academy's first international Pablo Casals Competition with an award . Here he received the Goffriller Cello from Pablo Casals from Marta Casals Istomin as a two-year loan.

Bohórquez performed as an orchestral soloist with numerous German orchestras, including almost all radio orchestras. He has also performed with numerous renowned international orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Collegium Musicum Basel, the Orchester de Paris and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He has given concerts as an orchestral soloist in Japan and the United States. He worked with well-known conductors such as Daniel Barenboim , Christoph Eschenbach , Manfred Honeck and Sir Neville Marriner .

Bohórquez has also performed at numerous festivals such as the City of London Festival , the Penderecki Festival Warsaw and the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival . He gave chamber concerts with Jörg Widmann , Viviane Hagner and Jonathan Gilad, among others . In the string trio you could hear Bohórquez together with Daishin Kashimoto and Amihai Grosz . Sometimes he also performs with his brother, the violinist Oscar Bohórquez (son) .

Claudio Bohórquez made numerous recordings as well as radio and television recordings. As an interpreter, he worked in the soundtrack for the film Ten Minutes Older - The Cello , which was shown in cinemas around the world.

From 2011 to 2016 Bohórquez worked as a professor for the cello subject at the Stuttgart University of Music . Since 2016 he has been a professor at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin , where he previously taught as a guest lecturer.

Bohórquez plays a cello made by Giovanni Battista Rogeri , which the Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg has made available to him.
