Oscar Ruben Bohórquez (* 1979 in Karlsruhe ) is a German classical violinist of South American family origin.

life and work

Oscar Bohórquez was born into a family of musicians in Karlsruhe. His father from Peru, also named Oscar Bohórquez , is a bassoon player, his mother from Uruguay worked as a pianist. Oscar Bohórquez started playing the violin when he was 6 years old. His teachers include Valery Gradow , Christoph Wyneken and Stephan Picard ; he attended master classes with Igor Ozim , Leonidas Kavakos and Mauricio Fuks . From 1998 he completed his violin studies with Aaron Rosand at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia . From 2002 to 2008 he undertook in-depth studies with Günter Pichler , the leader of the Alban Berg Quartet at the University of Music Vienna .

Oscar Bohórquez forms the Patagonia Express Trio with his brother, the cellist Claudio Bohórquez and the pianist and composer Gustavo Beytelmann . This trio recorded a CD with works by Astor Piazzolla and Gustavo Beytelmann. In 2019 Oscar Bohórquez released his solo album with Bach 's violin sonatas.

Oscar Bohórquez is committed to the dissemination of South American violin literature in Europe. For example, in June 2020 at SWR2 # together, an action in favor of freelance artists in the Corona crisis , he presented violin pieces by the Brazilian violin virtuoso and composer Flausino Vale, little known in Europe .

Oscar Bohórquez plays on the Grande Dame violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini from 1770 and on a violin bow by Dominique Peccatte from 1845.
