from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giovanni Battista Rogeri (* around 1642 in Bologna , † around 1710 in Brescia ) was an Italian violin maker .

Rogeri went to Cremona and worked there for Nicolò Amati from 1661–62 . He married around 1664 and settled in Brescia as a master violin maker. Here he continued the violin making tradition of Gasparo da Salo and Giovanni Paolo Maggini . His best instruments, including some cellos, were made in the period from around 1690. During this time he was supported by his son Pietro Giacomo , who made his own instruments from 1705.

A violin made by Rogeri, for example, was played by Gerhard Voss as second violinist of the Melos Quartet .
