Keiji Haino ( Moers Festival 2007)

Keiji Haino ( Japanese 灰 野 敬 二 Haino Keiji ; born May 3, 1952 in Chiba , Japan ) is a Japanese multi-instrumentalist ( guitar , voice, hurdy-gurdy , percussion , electronics, ethnic instruments) and composer. He is one of the most important musical border crossers between free jazz , noise and rock music and currently lives in Tokyo.

Act

Influenced by Antonin Artaud , Haino initially dealt with theater before founding the improvisation ensemble Lost Aaraaff in 1970 . In the mid-1970s he worked with Magical Power Mako and the film composer Toru Takemitsu . Then he ran numerous bands and projects such as God`s Orchestra White One Man Theater, Fushitsusha, Nijiumu, Vajra, Aihiyo, Knead (with Ruins), Head Rush and Sanhedrin . He has also performed as a soloist, but also in a duo or trio with improvisation musicians such as Kazutoki Umezu , John Zorn , Bill Laswell , Peter Brötzmann , Thurston Moore , Tony Conrad , Mayo Thompson , Hans Reichel , Christian Marclay , Fred Frith or Lee Konitz .

He played with ensembles such as Zeitkratzer , Faust or AMM as well as in the duo Kikuri with Merzbow and has performed at numerous international festivals around the world. In contrast to his early work, his work from the 1980s is very closely documented.
