Krzysztof Dobrek (born September 18, 1967 in Olkusz ) is a Polish musician ( accordion , composition , arrangement ) who has emerged primarily in the field of world music .

Live and act

Dobrek learned the accordion from his uncle when he was seven. At the age of 15 he moved to Kraków, where he received classical bassoon and piano lessons at the Państowowa Szkoła Muzyczna II Music High School . After leaving school in Kraków he was a member of various classical orchestras; he also appeared in theaters as a musician and actor. During the day he played classical bassoon, at night he jazzed on the keyboard . He developed an interest in folklore through a Roma group he heard on the street . At the age of 23 Dobrek came to Vienna, where he performed as a street musician for six years and played the accordion again.

In 1996 the music and cabaret group Die Landstreich hired him as an accordion player, arranger and composer. Maria Bill brought him in 1997 for programs with chansons by Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel ; he also belonged to the Acoustic Drive Orchestra (until its dissolution in 2000). Between 1999 and 2001 he played in the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle ; In 2000 he founded the group Dobrek Bistro with the Russian violinist Aliosha Biz (with which he released three albums). In 2002 the two merged with Roland Neuwirth , Alegre Corrêa and Marwan Abado the music of the most diverse cultures. With his formation Dobrek Brasil , to which Alegre Corrêa belonged, he released an album in 2004. Dobrek also opened the 4th International Accordion Festival in Vienna together with the accordionists Otto Lechner and Karl Hodina in 2003, was active as a theater musician with Angizia ( 39 years for the organ grinder or a piece for the Judenstadt ) and also plays at readings by Wolfram Berger and Richard Schuberth . The Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln also have pieces by him in their repertoire. He also composes for Angelika Kirchschlager ; In 2015 his composition Slavienna , which Roland Neuwirth wrote with the words , was premiered by her, Dobrek Bistro, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Boys' Choir at the Wiener Festwochen .

Prizes and awards

He was nationally honored as best folk & world artist in both the 2003 and 2004 Concerto Polls.
