The Wiener Tschuschenkapelle is an ethnic, Balkan and world music band that was founded in Vienna in 1989 . For about 15 years the band has been playing with the band leader and singer Slavko Ninić in a constant line-up. The repertoire of the formation includes traditional music from the countries of the former Yugoslavia down to Greece and Turkey. Their 1989 album featured the Bosnian folk song Moj dilbere , the Macedonian song Bolen leži mlad Stojan and the Turkish song Gidemem ben . There are always elements of the Greek rebetiko , theRoma and classical music are represented, but they also play songs from Russia and the Ukraine, as well as from their new homeland Austria, such as. B. the Viennese song "Only when will it be over", "Haus am Wasser" by Arik Brauer or "Wiesmather Watschentanz" by Gerhard Blaboll . Slavko Ninić and Hidan Mamudov always add their own songs to their repertoire, such as the melodious Christmas carol "Zeitbestellung", "Des is Wien" (both texts by Gerhard Blaboll) or "Kolo flott".

The Croatian Ninić chose the name Wiener Tschuschenkapelle (originally First Wiener Tschuschenkapelle ) in order, among other things, to take the harshness of the swear word Tschusch through ironic self-designation ( melioration ).

The Wiener Tschuschenkapelle played with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Vienna State Opera, including on the Millennium Night 2000. The band has played a.o. a. in Zimbabwe, Morocco, Tunisia, Brazil, Canada, USA, in Europe almost everywhere; however, it appears regularly in and around Vienna. The singer and entertainer Willi Resetarits , the singer and accordionist Otto Lechner or the writer and cabaret artist Gerhard Blaboll are often invited as guests .

In 2008 the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle toured across the Balkans as an ambassador for intercultural dialogue . This concert tour was documented on behalf of ORF in the film "Balkan Blues" by Wolfgang Beyer. The last foreign tour so far was in 2016 to New York.

In 2018, a long-cherished wish of the band leader Slavko Ninić came true: after fourteen recordings with “Chush” content, the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle recorded a CD with music exclusively from Austria. From Mozart's Papageno to songs by Willi Resetarits and Gerhard Blaboll to folk songs in different languages, they show the musical wealth of Austria and the unifying art of music - two concerns that are particularly close to the hearts of the musicians "Tschuschen".
