Karl Hodina
Karl Hodina (born June 7, 1935 in Vienna ; † March 24, 2017 in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna ) was an Austrian musician and painter .

Karl Hodina began training as a chemigrapher in 1949 at C. Angerer & Göschl in Ottakringer Straße. From 1955 he did self-taught painting studies and painted his first oil painting in 1962 . He had his first solo exhibition in 1967 in “Gallery 6”. Two years later, however, he had to give up his job as a lithographer due to a serious eye disease. As a painter, he also illustrated children's books and often presented his work in the form of art calendars or art portfolios. His painterly work can be classified under the term “ Vienna School of Fantastic Realism ”. Hodina also worked as a building designer; He was responsible for the Arnwiesen motorway service station near Gleisdorf in Styria , for example .

Karl Hodina founded the Vienna modern jazz quartet in 1957 and then worked with Fatty George . Since the 1970s, he devoted himself to the Duo Hodina together with the counterpoint guitarist Ederl Reiser the New Viennese song , starting with a setting of a poem by HC Artmann , "Fia d'Erni". He wrote many songs to texts by Walter Pissecker . He composed well-known songs like “ Herrgott aus Sta ” or “I let cherries grow for you”. He also appeared - partly as a moderator - in various radio and television programs on the ORF , including directing the ORF TV program “The Last Werkelmann” at the 1972 Berlinale . In 1979 he wrote the Viennese song book “O you dear Augustin ”. He was a virtuoso on the accordion . He also played jazz in a duo with guitarist Gerd Bienert . With Roland Neuwirth he was artistic director of the wean hean Vienna music festival in 2000 .
His final resting place is in the Ottakringer Friedhof (group 4, row 21, number 16) in Vienna.
