history

The first mention of Nitscha comes from March 8, 1403. On this day Archbishop Gregor von Salzburg prescribed the tithe of Niedern-Nitschau ( Nidern-Nitschaw ) and the wine and grain toe of Gleisdorf to Niklas Zink and his son for life.

In 1952 the municipalities of Kaltenbrunn and Arnwiesen as well as Gamling and Nitscha were merged. In 1967 the municipality of Nitscha was merged. On January 1, 2015, the municipality merged with the city of Gleisdorf as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform.

politics

Municipal council

Since the municipal council elections in 2010, the council has consisted of:

mayor

The last mayor, Peter Schiefer, took over from Lorenz Spielhofer in the summer of 2003.

coat of arms

Coat of arms Nitscha.jpg

Description of the coat of arms: "Diagonally quartered with red and gold, two pairs of apples and leafy twigs facing forward from the columns in confused colors, two pairs of grapes and vine leaves bursting backwards."

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from May 1, 1999.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture focuses on fruit and wine growing. Three inns (Gh. Bergwirt, Gh. Kaltenbrunnerhof Pint and Gh. Schuster) and four Buschenschenken (Maurer, Ramminger, Schantl, Seyfried) increasingly identify Nitscha as a local recreation area in Gleisdorf and Graz. Thanks to its easy accessibility, Nitscha is very popular both in summer and in winter.

Nitscha developed more and more from an agriculturally structured to a pure residential community. The proximity to the cities of Graz (30 minutes by car) and Vienna (90 minutes by car) contribute to this. The majority of the population commutes to work in Gleisdorf or Graz; in the district itself there is a carpentry and a pottery. Rural direct marketers, taverns and inns have come together to form the Nitscha nature tour .
