The end is my beginning is originally the title for an interview in book form by Folco Terzani with his father Tiziano. The film of the same name is based on this and depicts the last days in the life of the Italian journalist and writer Tiziano Terzani (1938–2004; played by Bruno Ganz in the film ). The main content is the conversations between him and his son Folco about the life and experiences of the journalist in different parts of the world, mainly in Asia. The journalist reflects, sometimes in an unusually humorous way, on his findings about life and death, especially about his impending death due to cancer . The son recorded these conversations in the last three months of his father's life, from which the book later emerged. When it came to film, the producer Ulrich Limmer and the director Jo Baier worked closely with the Terzanis family and especially with their son Folco Terzani, as those involved wanted a high degree of authenticity .
