Peter Marboe (born June 8, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ), director and author.

Life

His father was the head of the federal theater administration, Ernst Marboe , his brother the ORF manager Ernst Wolfram Marboe . After graduating from the Schottengymnasium , he studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1965. Then he did his military service. In 1967 he began his professional career in the cultural department of the Federal Press Service. In 1969 he became secretary to Federal Chancellor Josef Klaus . From 1970 he worked in various positions for Austria in the USA. From 1987 to 1991 he was chief executive of the ÖVP. From 1991 to 1996 he was head of the cultural policy section in the Foreign Ministry. He wrote numerous books in the 1990s.

In 1996 he became a member of the SPÖ-ÖVP coalition under Mayor Michael Häupl, City Councilor for Culture in Vienna ( Provincial Government and City Senate Häupl II ). The most controversial project of his tenure was the redesign of Judenplatz . During his tenure, he campaigned for the depoliticization of culture, which led to conflicts with his party colleague Franz Morak at the end of his tenure . In 2001 the coalition came to an end, Marboe therefore lost his office, but as a non-executive councilor he remained a member of the Vienna City Senate (and the state government) until November 30, 2003.

After finishing his political activities he became deputy director of the city's own company Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and was appointed director of the Vienna Mozart Year 2006 by his successor as City Councilor for Culture, Andreas Mailath-Pokorny . After that, he did not take any more public offices.

Peter Marboe is a member of the Catholic student association KAV Bajuvaria Vienna in the ÖCV .
