The long wave behind the Kiel is a German-Austrian television film from 2012 based on the book of the same name by Pavel Kohout with Mario Adorf , Veronica Ferres , Christiane Hörbiger and Christoph Letkowski in the leading roles. It was first broadcast on January 4, 2012 on Das Erste and ORF 2 . He was seen by 7.37 million viewers. This made it one of the most successful television films of the year.

action

The film is about a fateful encounter between two elderly people on a cruise ship in 1990. The terminally ill Sudeten German Margarete Kämmerer meets the Czech professor Burian. At the time of the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia, he had men from a village executed, including Margarete's husband. She wants revenge, her nephew should help her. It turns out that Margarete's husband had previously had Burian's brother killed. The nephew befriends Burian's daughter-in-law and spends a night with her. After a discussion between Burian and Margarete, both agree that no one understands them anymore and they (presumably) jump overboard together.

background

The shooting took place in Vienna and Sri Lanka .

reception

“... Paul Kohout's uncomfortable template puts his finger in the wound - the brave staging and papery dialogues unfortunately don't do it justice. ... The serious concern silts up in the flat "

- TV feature film

“(TV) film adaptation of a novel by Pavel Kohout, which lets the two opponents meet in the turning point of 1990 after the power blocs disbanded. An interesting way of coming to terms with the past, which takes the dream ship idyll ad absurdum. "
