A Guardian Angel on Travel is an Austrian television film from 1997. It was directed by Peter Weck . The film ran for the first time on television on December 27, 1997 on ORF .

action

The film begins at the Vienna Südbahnhof (removed in 2010). Karl Horak is very close to his retirement and has two more journeys as a sleeper coach to go. These trips go in the EuroNight 237/238 "San Marco" from Vienna Südbahnhof to Venezia SL and in the EuroNight 239/236 "San Marco" back again. His colleagues make him happy in this context and prepare his sleeping car so that he only has to receive the travelers.

The first guest is the pensioner Heinrich Bauer, known as the "horror of the night trains". No sleeper is safe from this man. The next passengers are the athlete Otto Wanz and a music ensemble called Quattro Stazioni. Since the musical instruments are very important to the musicians, they also have their own tickets. Immediately afterwards, Xaver Frey, a well-known lamp manufacturer, appears. The manufacturer has nothing left because his lifestyle has used up all his money. As a result, he was also abandoned by his wife. These circumstances lead him to plan a suicide on the night train to be buried in Venice.

A little later, a pregnant woman appears who is actually a drug smuggler. This means that an Austrian and an Italian commissioner also use the night train. Another special feature concerns Jonathan Schretter. He is married to Sonja Schretter from the bank of the same name, but has an affair with Xaver Frey's still wife. Furthermore, he was significantly involved in the demise of the Xaver Frey company and ensured that the Leuchter order for the Venice opera went to him and not to Xaver Frey. As luck would have it, he and his lover are also on board the train. Sonja Schretter, his wife, finds out the whole thing and tries to inform Xaver about it and to prevent him from suicide.

During the voyage, Karl Horak has all his hands to do to prevent suicide, since a corpse on board would not be suitable and he cannot use something like that on his penultimate voyage. He has to take the help of Heinrich Bauer. Meanwhile, the drug smuggler has learned that the police are after him and tries to leave the train. Shortly before the border with Italy, he has the chance to flee, but has to leave the drugs in a strange compartment. That this compartment is used by Heinrich Bauer is a funny coincidence that ends in the arrest of the pensioner.

After the train left the border and it was widely known that a drug smuggler was on board, all the attention is now back to Xaver Frey and his suicide. Karl Horak can, with his lovable manner and some aids, such as B. Heinrich Bauer's vitamin pills to prevent suicide. With a clear head again, Xaver Frey learns that his wife and Jonathan Schretter are on board and can thus save his company again.

In Venezia SL the drug smuggler and his middleman are arrested and the first positive result is there. The second positive result is Sonja Schretter and Xaver Frey. She flew and drove after the train the whole time to pass the information on to Xaver. In Venezia SL she then has the opportunity, but everything is already known. Heinrich Bauer had to hitchhike from the border to Venezia SL. The reason for this was his arrest.

Shortly before the train left the border station, the news came that he was innocent and that he could leave. Exactly at the moment when it goes, the train starts moving and this is how this special ride-sharing opportunity comes about. When he arrives in Venezia SL, he gets on the train to get his things. Of course, this does not leave Karl Horak without a trace and when he sees the pensioner, he realizes that everything has come to an end and he is happy to be retiring.
