Life
The trained car mechanic Otto Wanz was already such a successful boxer in his youth that he was brought into the adult sector by the boxing association at the age of 16 after his boxing colleagues of the same age had no chance against him. He then won numerous national championship titles, was appointed to the Austrian Olympic selection in 1960 and was a long-time starter in the Austrian boxing squad, to which he belonged in the 1960s. In 1967 Wanz switched to wrestling and began his wrestling career just a year later.
Together with Peter William, Wanz owned the European wrestling promotion CWA , for which he actively competed. He previously worked for the American AWA and once held its world title.
Otto Wanz ended his active time as a wrestler on December 22, 1990. Wanz held three power world records. He hosted many of the European strongman competitions.
Wanz has had roles in several films and starred in the video for the title Africa ("Is the Massa good at Kassa") by the Austrian music group EAV .
The event organizer and television commentator Michael Wanz is his son.
