Schimanski muss suffer is a television film from the Schimanski crime series on ARD .

The film was produced by Colonia Media and first aired on December 3, 2000. It is the ninth episode in the Schimanski series with Götz George .

action

One morning the distraught Kurdish girl Nadiye with a coat and headscarf is standing at Schimanski's anchorage . Schimanski and Marie-Claire want to go to Hamburg for Königsberg's birthday and, after unsuccessful questioning, take them to the German - Belgian border to hand them over to Hunger from the state security. On their journey they pick up Hänschen and stop at a motorway restaurant near Duisburg .

Hunger brings the girl to the Duisburg mental hospital to see Dr. Arkar, who, among other things, smuggles Kurdish refugees through. The young taco, who steals objects from his grandmother Simone Popp's apartment in order to sell them to his colleagues, also works in this institution. The evidence that the Kurdish girl is carrying is said to be handed over to a contact point outside by a trusted nurse Arkar. These are photos and letters that show torture in Turkish prisons . Since Taco misunderstood this observation as a drug business, he intercepts the messenger and offers to take him there. At the rest stop where Schimanski is staying, an argument breaks out, in which Taco injures the messenger with his grandmother's stolen weapon and flees. Schimanski is surprised by the hustle and bustle and finds out more. Suddenly he is almost run over by grandmother Simone, who tried in panic to stop her grandson.

Simone Popp asks Schimanski to follow her grandson. Hänschen now has to solve a case instead of taking a vacation. This is too much for Marie-Claire and she runs away with a truck driver. During the pursuit, Schimanski is rammed by a Mercedes and searched by two Turkish agents. Since they don't find anything, they disappear again. Since they lost Taco, Schimanski and Simone drive to his apartment, where Taco's girlfriend Maya is having a nap with someone else. Simone Popp uses this fact to locate Taco using ISDN and a cell phone. Together with Taco's girlfriend and Schimanski, she visits Arkar's clinic and shows him a manipulated photo that allegedly shows Taco injured. But by the way, Schimanski recognizes how Hunger has put him on the back, because he thought that hunger wouldn't bring Nadiye there.

When Taco suddenly calls his girlfriend on the cell phone, she meets him in a shopping mall café. Simone and Schimanski lie in wait for the two of them, with Taco's girlfriend seizing his weapon and giving them both the chance to escape. During the persecution of the two, two PKK fighters and Turkish agents turn up there, with one agent being stabbed to death by the PKK terrorist Fatma. Taco and Maya crack an American car in the parking garage and are able to escape the PKK people at the last minute. But the last Turkish agent in the Mercedes follows you to the countryside. The chase ends with an accident that Taco and his girlfriend survive.

Schimanski, who no longer understands anything, is briefly arrested by guards. Hänschen appears and thinks he is crazy, but Schimanski suspects that all the threads in the clinic come together. He expresses his displeasure with public prosecutor Schäfer and incidentally learns that Konigsberg is dying, which he considers to be a mistake.

He visits Simone Popp in her house, which has been ransacked. The successful architect complains of her suffering and the two of them sleep together after becoming friends over alcohol. While they're both in bed, Taco sneaks into the house. When he watches her and Schimanski looks at him, he runs away again.

Meanwhile, in the clinic, hunger didn't get any further with Arkar, as he expects help from outside. Schäfer visits Schimanski at Simone Popp's and explains the situation. On the side she sends Hänschen to the institution with a special task force. A little later she shows up there herself and Hunger tries to distract her by exchanging sexual niceties with her. The PKK terrorists meanwhile use force to gain access to the closed area of the clinic. Taco, once there, is provided by special police units. Schimanski and Simone sneak into the clinic and secretly bring Nadiye out through the basement. Since the PKK's plan to get Nadiye failed, they kidnap Arkar. After Schimanski said goodbye to Simone at an airport, she takes Nadiye to friends outside the country.

When he finally arrived in Hamburg, Schimanski discovered that Königsberg had already died on his birthday. All that remains is a farewell tape from his boss. When he looks out of the hospital room window, he sees his Marie-Claire, who has decided to come back to him.

Awards

Christiane Hörbiger received the Adolf Grimme Prize in the “Special” competition in 2001 for her performance in Schimanski muss Leiden .

background

The film took up a topic that had become more topical again after the arrest of the PKK functionary Abdullah Öcalan a year earlier, but had been pushed into the background by the war in Kosovo . After Hänschen, a familiar character from the old Tatort films, returned, Schimanski's former boss in Königsberg was given a worthy conclusion.
